L. Brewton, Sr. of Winnfield, La., died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 28, 1990, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, La. after an extended illness. Mr. Brewton was founder in 1938 of L. L. Brewton Lumber Co. He had been active in all phases of Louisiana forestry and the lumbering industry. He had also been active in other business, community, religious, and social affairs. He was a current member of the board of directors of the Bank of Winnfield & Trust Co. He was an active member of Winnfield's First Baptist Church. Mr. Brewton was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners Club of Shreveport. He was a member of both the Masonic Lodge in Goldonna, La., and the Eastern Star Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M. in Winnfield. He was a former long time member of the Winnfield Rotary club and a charter member of the Pine Ridge Country Club. Services for Latnie Lanier Brewton, Sr., 84, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 1990 at First Baptist Church, Winnfield, with Dr. Calvin Phelps and the Rev. Steve Caraway officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories under direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, La. The Jena, La., native moved with his family in 1909 to Winn Parish. Born April 13, 1906, he was the second child and last survivor of the five children of James H. and Carmie Reed Brewton. He was preceded in death on November 23, 1962 by his first wife, Hazel Page Brewton. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stovall Brewton, of Winnfield, La.; one son, Latnie L. "Snookie" Brewton, Jr; of Winnfield, La.; two stepdaughters, Jan Jensen Jarrett of Shreveport, La., and Freda "Bitsy" Jensen Pohl of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandsons, Latnie L. "Trey" Brewton III, James Michael "Micky" Brewton, and Randall Parker "Randy" Brewton, all of Winnfield, La.; one granddaughter, Evelyn Suzanne "Susie" Broughton of Caddo Mills, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Jarrett and John Paul Jarrett of Shreveport, La., and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers were C. D. Whitehead, Dudley P. Shell, William "Bill" Poe, Richard C. "Dickie" Heard, Crawford J. Erskins, R. W. "Buddy" Roberts, John Carter, and Douglas H. Allen.
