Brew by Vernon Ray Davenport Services for Ferguson S. Brew were held Saturday, December 4, at the St. Pius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge with the Rev. David M. Chauvin officiating. Interment was in Southern Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge. Ferguson Sullivan Brew was born on June 26, 1936 to the late Aeolus and Agnes Brew, in Winnfield. He died on Tuesday, November 30, 1993 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Brew joined the Morning Star Baptist Church as a teenager. He later became a member of the Catholic Church in Baton Rouge where he remained active until his death. He married Lois Anna Thomas on Dec. 22, 1960. The are the parents of two sons, Mark and Roderick. Brew graduated from Pinecrest High School in 1955. He received his B. S. and Master's degrees from Southern University in Baton Rouge and pursued further studies at the University of Kentucky. Brew retired from state government after 28 years of service. His employment ranged from Residence Director to Business Manager at Southern University and then to the State Consumer Protection Office. He also worked with the Job Training Partnership Act Program. Brew's life was an inspiration to his family, friends, youth and co-workers. He held membership in 13 civic and fraternal organizations from Louisiana Consumer League to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lois, and their two sons, Mark and Roderick; one daughter in law, Gladys; two grandchildren, Melanie and Roderick; one sister, Lauell Brew; three brothers, Joseph of Breaux Bridge, Mayo of Zachary, and Earnest of St. Martinville; his mother in law, Mildred Thomas; nine sisters in law, and two brothers in law. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry Earl, who was killed in action in the Korean War. Until his last days, Brew exemplified a strong will and determination to overcome his illness but his faith in God helped him realize that there is an open door at the end of the road through which each must go alone, and there our Father claims his own. During his last days, he constantly searched for that door...therefore, we rejoice to think of the joyous eternity this was for him on Thursday, November 30, as he began his stay with God.
