Brian, 84, of Shreveport, former publisher of the Winnfield Times which today is the News-American, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday in a Shreveport hospital following an extended period of failing health. He was a native of Grant Parish, born near Pollock, and after residing in several other north Louiaiana parishes, including Winn and Natchitoches, he moved to Shreveport in 1924 and resided there the balance of his life. In 1916 he purchased the Winnfield Times, which he edited for two years. He had resided in Winn Parish a number of years before engaging in the newspaper business, and in the early 1880s was elected by the Winn electorate as a member of the state house of representatives while his father, of Grant Parish, was a state senator. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. J. R. Hall of Winnfield. He is survived by two sons, W. T,. of Shreveport and B. F. of Eunice; two daughters, Mrs. Celeste Brian Carpenter of Morehead, Miss., and Miss Clara Alma Brian of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Emmaline Hanks of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Harvey Brian of Nebo, La., and F.
