Brian Succumbs At His Home Wednesday Prominent Physician Dies From Heart Attack April 10, 1940 Dr. S. M. Brian, 62 years of age, prominent physician of Winn Parish, died from a heart attack at his home here Wednesday morning at 6:45. He had been suffering with heart disease for several years. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Alwyn Stokes, Presbyterian minister, in charge. Interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery following the Masonic service at the grave. Named as pallbearers were B. G. Pasco, Luke Skains, R. D. Skains, Nat Brian, Jr., Iley Brian, Francis Brian, C. J. Hastings, Bruce Smith, H. V. Dunford, J. W. Kennedy, W. B. Kemp, F. P. Jones, and Curry Ford. Dr. Brian had been practicing in this parish for 32 years, having been connected with the Tremont Lumber Company as company doctor. His family was connected with the early history of Winn Parish, his father, the late Rev. Iley Brian, Baptist minister, being a pioneer in the religious and educational activities of this section. Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Miss Eula Brian, of Houston, Texas; two sons, Sam Brian of Jena and Sol Brian of Winnfield; two brothers, Dr. Nat Brian of Montgomery and Elmo Brian of Natchez, Miss.; four sisters, Mrs. Claude McQuiddy of Fayetteville, Tenn., Mrs. Roy Barker of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Q. L. Hastings of Longview, Texas, and Mrs. Carl Rhinehart of Alexandria.
