Brister Held At Sikes Funeral services for John W. Brister, Sr., 70, who died October 9, 1967 in a Winnfield hospital after a long illness, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the East Winnfield Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. W. A. Wimbs, in charge, assisted by Rev. B. G. Dyess and the Rev. John Holt. Burial was in the Sikes Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. He was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a retired timber contractor. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vaudie Simmons Brister; one daughter, Mrs. Violet Richardson of Alexandria; four sons, John Brister, Jr. and Bill Brister, both of Atlanta, Ga., Carl Ben Brister and Glen Brister, both of West Monroe; one half-brother, Webb Gentry of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Lawrence of West Monroe; and 12 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Oscar Lawrence, James Brister, Jerry Gentry, Perkins Thornton, Don Martin, Lindell Simmons, Carvel Prince, and Arlon Adams.
