Funeral Services Here Wednesday For Mrs. Burkett

Mrs. Lela Burkett, about 80, of Lake Charles, died at her home there.  Funeral
services were held here at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Teagle Cemetery on the Port
de Luce-Calvin gravel road.

Mrs. Burkett is a native of Winn Parish and is the daughter of the late
Charles and Rachel Mathis, pioneer Winn settlers.  She lived here for many
years before moving to Lake Charles.

Dr. W. L. Holcomb conducted funeral services at the cemetery after a brief
stopover by the family at the W. R. Horton home on Main Street.

Survivors of Mrs. Burkett include three children, one sister, Mrs. Minnie
Siess of Hot Springs, Ark., and several cousins and other relatives in Winn
Parish.
