Barton Services for Velda Hinton Barton, 83, of Winnfield were at 10 a.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Grayson Watson officiating. Burial was in Winnfield City Cemetery under direction of Southern. Mrs. Barton died at 2:35 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 1981 in the local hospital. She was a member of United Methodist Women's Club, Methodist Orphanage Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Pilot Club, and Pioneer Club. She was employed by South Central Bell Telephone for 38 years, retiring in 1962 as Chief Operator, having served in that supervisory capacity for approximately 20 years. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death in 1929 by her husband, George W. Barton, a well-known barber shop owner. Survivors include two sons, Hugh B. Barton of Houston and Al H. Barton of Covington; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Virgil Barton, Edwin Simpson, Lawrence Donohoe, Holmes E. Harris, Hugh Barton, and Al Barton.
