Burke, reports say, had returned home from school and happened to see a rabbit in a field nearby. Procuring his shotgun the youth pursued the rabbit, chasing him into some brush near the home. In an effort to arouse the animal from the brush he commenced poking the butt of the gun into the brush, holding it by the barrel. Evidently the trigger was caught in the brush causing the gun to fire. The full load of shot from the gun passed through the youth's abdomen. He was rushed to the Baptist Hospital, Alexandria, but lived only a short while. The youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Burke, of Winnfield, R. F. D. No. 2. Besides his parents he is survived by one brother, Everett. Funeral services were held at Corinth Church Saturday afternoon with interment in the Corinth Cemetery.
