All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 6, 1934 Winn Parish Enterprise William Burnum, Civil War Vet, Dies August 29 Funeral Services Held At Gansville Thursday Afternoon William Burnum, 87 year old Civil War Veteran and long time resident of Winn Parish, died at the home of his son, C. W. Burnum, near Jena, Wednesday, August 29, 1934. Mr. Burnum was in perfect health in spike of his age until about four weeks before his death. Funeral services were held at Gansville Thursday afternoon, September 27, with Rev. M. Doty (Doughty?) Of Tullos and Rev. R. B. Kitchenham of Dodson officiating. Mr. Burnum was a member of the Fellowship (Jena) Baptist Church. He was a resident of Winn Parish for many years and had numerous friends throughout the parish. He is the last of his generation of the family. The deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. H. E. Machen, Winnfield; Mrs. T. E. Allen, Dodson; Mrs. C. A. Smith, Forest; Mrs. W. N. Taylor, Dodson; Mrs. Jesse Temple, Dodson; Mrs. G. C. Taylor, Dodson; Mrs. Floyd Brantley, Nacogdoches, Texas; and C. W. Burnum, Jena. Active pallbearers were Bryant Sholars, Charlie Walsworth, Walter Allen, Aubrey Pyburn, Alfred Mixon, J. B Milam, R. L. Daily. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J. F. Faith, J. E. Carter, Bob Smith, Miley Walsworth, Frank Shaw, and W. L. Andrews.
