J. Byrnes, was fatally injured early Sunday morning when his automobile ran off highway 167 near Port Luce bridge as he was returning from the home of W. A. Bowen. Details concerning the accident are meager as the young man was alone when it happened but it was supposed that he went to sleep at the wheel as his car tracks showed that he failed to make the curve when he came off the bridge, his car having run about 50 feet along the embankment on the right and then crossed the road and crashed off the left side of the highway. Byrnes' chest was crushed and both legs were broken above the knees. The tragedy was discovered early Sunday morning by Mr. McDonald of the Edmonds Funeral Home who was enroute here to meet the L. & A. passenger train. Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Land, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor Presbyterian Church, and Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor of Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in the Pollock Cemetery at Pollock, La. Pallbearers were Charles Walsworth, Jr., Clyde Swanson, Earl Powers, Hovy Harrell, Doris Warner, Fred Roark, Sol Brian, and Lewis Sholars. Surviving are the parents; one sister, Mrs. Ben Trahan, and one brother, Bobby Byrnes, all of Winnfield.
