Bradford Retired Mathematician Dies Dr. William Henry Bradford, age 68, born at Newton County, Mississippi, a resident of Route 4, Winnfield, La., died in the evening of February 2, 1981. He was a retired mathematician and systems analyst for Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was with Sandia for 17 « years (1957-1974). Dr. Bradford held a B. S. in Mathematics and Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1936, a M. S. in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in 1937, and a Ph. D. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Texas in 1947. He held a teaching Fellow at Louisiana State University from 1937 to 1939, Instructor in Applied Mathematics, University of Texas from 1945-1947, member of the first faculty at McNeese State University in 1939. He was at McNeese for 18 years during which time he became Head of the Department of Mathematics and Dean of the Liberal Arts Division. While at McNeese he established the School of Nursing, Department of Geology, and School of Engineering. He also organized the McNeese Alumni Association and served as its faculty advisor. He was a member of the Maplewood Lions Club and the Lake Charles Rotary Club. In 1957 he resigned from the faculty of McNeese to become a member of the Scientific Technical Staff of Sandia National Laboratories. Most of his reports in weapon systems analysis and logistics were classified. Unclassified papers were published in the Duke Mathematical Journal and the Journal of Geophysical Research. He was a member of the Mathematical Association of American and served one term as President of the Louisiana-Mississippi Branch of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in America. Masonic membership was held in Mesa Lodge No. 68, A. F. & A. M., Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Edna Mae Shaw Bradord, a daughter, Mrs. Dick E. (Elizabeth Ellen) Cunningham, and two grandchildren, Victoria T. Walter and Briggs B. Cunningham, both of Temple, Arizona. Services will be held in the Chapel of Chester T. French Mausoleum located in Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, New Mexico and entombment will immediately follow on Thursday, February 5, 1981.
