All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 25, 1971 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Dodson Youth Dies In Winn's Fifth Fatality Winn Parish's fifth fatal auto accident in 1971 claimed the life of 19 year old Ronnie Lynn Blake of Dodson, when he drowned when his 1963 Chevrolet sedan slammed into a bridge railing on Hwy. 84 West and was submerged in six feet of water, according to police. Another Winn Parish youth, Carlos M. Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alon Carpenter of Calvin, who was asleep in the back of the vehicle, escaped with minor injuries. Blake was trapped in the wreckage. Carpenter swam to safety. The accident occurred at 3 a.m. Sunday, one half mile west of Winnfield. According to state police damage to the bridge railing was estimated at $ 100. Young Blake was a 1969 graduate of Dodson High, a member of the Louisiana National Guard, and was employed at the Dodson Plywood Plant. He is survived by his father, Robert Lee Blake, of Jonesboro; his mother, Mrs. W. M. Jordan and stepfather, Mr. Jordan, of Dodson; two brothers, Marlon Blake and Bobby Garlon Blake, both of Winnfield; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Caskey, Sr., of Dodson and Mrs. Mattie Blake, Ward 10, Winn Parish. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in the Cypress Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Mr. Shows of Calvin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Bobby G. Blake, H. L. Caskey, Jr., Robert E. Caskey, Huey D. Caskey, Cecil Caskey, and Dewayne Caskey.
