L. Calhoun Succumbs; Buried At Mars Hill Mrs. Mary Susie Calhoun, 81, a resident of Winnfield for the past 44 years died in a Jena clinic July 11 after a long illness. She was the widow of John L. Calhoun, prominent in Winn Parish political and civic circles at one time. Funeral services for Mrs. Calhoun, who was a native of Meridian, Mississippi, were held July 12 at 10 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. W. R. Gage and Mrs. Gerald Buckley officiating. Burial was in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Robert Lee Dunn, Eli Harrell, Gordon Stewart, J. J. Crippen, Preston Wallace, and Brandy Hammons. Mrs. Calhoun was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Miss Myrtle Calhoun, Winnfield; Mrs. Dave Duke, Colfax; Mrs. Curtis Posey, Olla; one son, Teal Calhoun, Colfax; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
