Calhoun Is Buried At Mars Hill Thursday John L. Calhoun, 67 year old Ward One justice of the peace, died suddenly at his home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He has been in ill health for a number of years. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Mars Hill Church near Montgomery, La., and interment was made in the cemetery there. Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian pastor, was in charge of the services. Pallbearers were John Emerson, Harley Bozeman, Hugh Mercer, A. G. Stewart, Joe Durham, and Houston Gates. Mr. Calhoun was born at Montgomery, La. Since making his home in Winnfield 29 years ago, he has held many prominent positions in Winn Parish and the state. He is a former member of the 19th district Louisiana Levee Board. At one time he served as Mayor Pro-Tem of Winnfield, and was also Vice-President of the First National Bank here. For many years he served on the city and parish democratic committees. He is survived by his wife; one son, Teal Calhoun, who is serving in the U. S. Army somewhere in England; four daughters, Mrs. Dave Nelson, Mrs. C. L. Posey, and Miss Myrtle Calhoun, all of Jena, La., and Mrs. Paul A. Duke of Colfax, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Jackson, Montgomery, Mrs. Emma Dixon, Verda, and Mrs. Ollie McManus, Lillie, La.; two brothers, J. D. Calhoun, Derry, La., and Charlie Calhoun, Montgomery; and eight grandchildren.
