Calhoun, who for many years has been a prominent merchant at Verda died at his home on Monday morning May 28th, at 6 o'clock. At the time of his death Mr. Calhoun was 65 years, 5 months, and 21 days old and was one of the most influential citizens of the Verda community, a splendid Christian character that was always loyal to the best interests of the town and community. He was laid to rest in the Mars Hill Cemetery Tuesday morning, May 29th. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Boyd and attended by hosts of friends. The deceased leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two sons, three daughters, fifteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one brother.
