Carter, 64, Held Wednesday Funeral rites for Wiseman Henry Carter, 64, native and life long resident of Winn Parish, were held at the Laurel Heights Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, with the Rev. H. J. Mott and Rev. Calvin Robinson officiating. Interment under direction of Southern Funeral Home was in Winnfield Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at the grave with Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Mr. Carter, a resident of Winnfield for many years passed away in a local clinic about 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 7, after an illness of one week. He had been in poor health for several months. He was born in Calvin on December 19, 1885, and moved to Winnfield a number of years ago. He formerly operated a service station here. Mr. Carter was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church, Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, and the Order of Eastern Star, Palestine Chapter. Surviving are one son, Captain R. B. Carter of the U. S. Army, stationed in Jackson, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Mignon Elias of Tullos; four grandchildren; six brothers, J. E. Carter, L. C. Carter, Gamble Carter, and E. D. Carter, of Winnfield, and C. M. Carter of Jonesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Dan Lowe of Verda, Mrs. Mollie Jackson and Mrs. Lorena Williams, both of Winnfield. Masonic pallbearers were Latnie Brewton, J. W. Kennedy, Sr., Melton Hightower, Welby B. Willis, William Shaw, E. H. Farr, Elmo Frazier, and J. J. Crippen.
