All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 17, 1931 Winn Parish Enterprise Norman Carpenter Killed Accidentally In Car Saturday Norman Carpenter, age 13 years, of Calvin, was instantly killed Saturday afternoon, September 12, near Black Lake. His father, Joseph M. Carpenter, who was driving the car lost control in loose gravel due to a flat tire. The car ran over an embankment about 20 feet high, overturning and pinning Mr. Carpenter, Verda and Norman Carpenter, the other occupants, underneath. When they were rescued in a few minutes by friends driving in another car behind, Mr. Carpenter, the father, and Verda, the sister, were injured, but no seriously. Funeral services were held at the Bethlehem Church Sunday at two o'clock, the Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of Winnfield Baptist Church, in charge. The deceased leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Carpenter, two sisters, Bertha and Verda, and one brother, Gilbert, besides many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his untimely passing.
