C. Carpenter, 72, of Route 4, Winnfield, were held at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, October 24, with the Rev. R. Hancock, church pastor, and Rev. C. M. Robinson of Winnfield officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter, known as "Aunt Mary" to her many friends in Winn and surrounding parishes, died at her home at 1 a.m. Sunday after an illness of about a year. She was born in Alabama, July 3, 1876, and came to Louisiana at the age of three. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and for many years had taken a leading part in community activities. Surviving are her husband, Pete Carpenter, of the Bethlehem Community; five sons, Wilburn, Sherman, and Virgil of Rt. 4, Winnfield; Fred of Rt. 1, Goldonna; and Austin, of Cullen, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Lee Allen of Winnfield, and Mrs. Ed Barridge of Rt. 4, Winnfield; one brother, William Carrol of Dodson, and a sister, Mrs. Sis Lambert of Texas. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were G. B. Carter, Sadie Weeks, Gilbert Carpenter, Douglas Garrett, Deloy Green, and Joe Carpenter.
