All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 16, 1971 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Mrs. Carpenter Dies In Wreck, Funeral Sept. 15 Funeral services for Mrs. Athenese Carpenter, 49, of Winnfield, were held at Sanders Chapel near Calvin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 15. Burial followed in the Sanders Chapel Cemetery with Rev. W. L. Fussell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mrs. Carpenter's body was discovered with her wrecked car Sunday, September 12, in Couley Creek near Winnfield by State Trooper A. W. Warren. Trooper Warrdn said she apparently lost control of the car which hit the end of Couley Creek Bridge and plunged into the creek bed, some 14 miles west of Winnfield on Hwy. 84. Mrs. Carpenter was apparently thrown from the vehicle which overturned in the crash, police said. Warren said evidence at the scene indicated that the vehicle flipped over one and a half times. The incident occurred sometime Saturday night. The wreckage was discovered by Trooper Warren while he was checking damage to the bridge. Survivors include her husband, John R. Carpenter of Winnfield; two sons, Donald R. Carpenter and Richard A. Carpenter, both of Sacramento, California; a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Bratton of Winnfield; a son, Aaron H. Holton, Jr., also of Winnfield; and six grandchildren.
