All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 27, 1970 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Accident Victim Gregory Carter Dies Of Injuries Funeral services for Gregory Arthur Carter, 16, of Ward 5 in Winn Parish, who died Monday from injuries received in an automobile accident Aug. 15, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Verda Baptist Church. Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Carter, Sr., was a passenger in a car driven by Michael Stroud, 17, of Montgomery. Stroud, traveling north on John Carr Road in Grant Parish, lost control of the vehicle. The car skidded sideways down the road, left the road and overturned. Carter was thrown from the car. He was treated in Montgomery and transferred to Shreveport hospital where he died Monday. Carter attended Verda School last year and Atlanta School in previous years. At both schools he had been outstanding in basketball. He pitched for Verda's baseball team and had played in the Dixie Senior baseball program. Services were held August 25 conducted by the Revs. B. Blue and James Barrett. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. In addition to his parents, survivors include four brothers, Billy, Kenny, Robert, and Larry Carter; three sisters, Marguerite, Karen, and Sue Carter; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Leta Cox, all of Montgomery; his maternal, grandfather, D. C. Lovette, Ridgeland, Miss.; and his foster grandfather, H. A. Kieffer of Atlanta.
