W.A. CARPENTER OF CALVIN SATURDAY Funeral Services Held Sunday Afternoon at Bethlehem Cemetery Rev. W.A. Carpenter of Calvin was claimed by death last Saturday afternoon following a stroke of paralysis from which he suffered several days. Rev. Carpenter was 74 years old, and for more than forty years had served many of the Baptist churches in this section as pastor, among them Cypress Creek and Bethlehem. Active in church and civic life of his community Rev. Carpenter is counted among those substantial citizens of the parish who contributed much to its upbuilding and progress. Rev. Carpenter was born in Mississippi and at the age of 13 he moved to Louisiana. He was married to Miss Lucy Rudd and to whom were born eleve children, three of whom preceeded him in death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Spence Ray of Jena, who assisted in the ordination to the ministry forty years ago, and Rev. F.M. Shows of Calvin, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock and interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery. He is survived by his widow, three sons, J.M. Carpenter, W.E. Carpenter, Hershel Carpenter, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie O'Brien, Mrs. J.C. Megison, Mrs. W.H. Collins and one sister, Mrs. W.R. Griffin, all of Calvin.
