CARPENTER HELD DECEMBER 14 Joseph M. Carpenter, 79, lifelong resident of the Bethlehem community, Winn parish, died at a Winnfield hospital December 12. He was a retired farmer and employee of the State Highway Department, a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and before his retirement was active in political, community and church affairs. Funeral services were conducted at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 11 a.m. December 14, with the pastor, Rev. Clyde Parker, assisted by the Rev. E.J. Yocum, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Carpenter is survived by one son, Gilbert Carpenter, Dodson; two daughters, Mrs. Charles M. Green, Pensacola, Fla., and Mrs. Luther Frazier of Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Herschel Carpenter; and three sisters, Mrs. Sid O'Bryan, Mrs. J.C. Megison, and Mrs. W.H. Collins, all of the Bethlehem community.
