CARPENTER DIED OF HEART ATTACK TODAY Funeral services for W.E. Carpenter Sr., 69, retired Calvin logger, will be held tomorrow (Friday) January 1. Mr. Carpenter died in a local hospital this morning from a stroke. Services will be at the Calvin Baptist Church, at 2 p.m. with Rev. W.C. Hall and Judge Cas Moss officiating, according to arrangements announced today by the family. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery. Mr. Carpenter, a well known resident of the Calvin community, was a native of Winn parish and a lifelong resident. He was married to the former Martha Senora Hodges, who survives him. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hershel Lowe, Mrs. Ed Carter, and Miss Earlene Carpenter all of Calvin, and Mrs. Thurmond Reed of Many; seven sons, W.E. Carpenter Jr., Bob Carpenter, Frank Carpenter, Alon Carpenter, Clifford Carpenter, and Calop Carpenter, all of Calvin; 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sid O'Bryan, Mrs. Anna Medgison, and Mrs. Nola Collins, all of Wattsville community in Ward Eight; and two brothers, H.M. Carpenter, and Joseph Carpenter, also of Wattsville community. Pallbearers were to be nephews, J.D. Rudd, Webb Hodges, C.Q. Cockerham, W.H. Collins, Floyd Johnson, and Gilbert Carpenter.
