Carter Dies; Rites At Sharon Church Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday for Rufus J. Carter, 78, of Sikes. Mr. Carter died Friday morning, July 30, 1971, at Winnfield General Hospital after a short illness. Services were in the Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Parker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Carter, a native of Union Parish, was a retired farmer. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. R. J. Carter, Sikes; five sons, Jessie Carter, James Carterand Rufus Carter, Jr., all of Bastrop, La.; Travis L. Carter and Earl K. Carter both of West Monroe; five daughters, Mrs. Harry Lawson and Mrs. Floyd Sandiford, both of West Monroe; Mrs. John Lowery, Calhoun, Mrs. John Morton, Centralia, Mo., and Mrs. Vada Schriner, Sikes; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Antley, Point, and Mrs. Mitzi Acreage, Monroe; 29 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
