Carter, 73, of Winnfield died Wednesday, March 2, 1977 at the Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria after a lengthy illness. Funeral services for Mr. Carter were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home here with the Rev. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Yankee Springs Cemetery near Goldonna. Mr. Carter was a native of Calvin, a member of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Virgie Carter of Winnfield; three sons, Billy W. Carter of Natchitoches, Sammy Carter of Jonesboro, and Sonny Carter of Coushatta; one daughter, Miss Jimmie Carter of Winnfield; three brothers, W. S. Carter and Dayton Carter, both of Winnfield, and Ed Carter of Calvin; four sisters, Mrs. Alma Fletcher of Natchez, Miss., Mrs. Annie Mae Fowler of Ft. Necessity, Mrs. Elsie Bonnette of Winnsboro, and Mrs. Coleen Carpenter of Calvin; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.. Pallbearers were Dan Page, Murphy Worsham, Don Thompson, Silas Creel, Alfred Splangler, Horace Alexander, and Homer Bryant.
