All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Four Die In Car Wreck While On Way to a Funeral Thomas Cave, Children, and Sister-in-Law Killed As Machine Overturns A car containing a family of five, enroute from Winnfield to Birmingham to attend a funeral overturned on the highway near Delta, La., early last Firday, killing four and seriously injuring a fifth. The dead are Thomas Cave, 33, of Winnfield, his two children, Donald, 3, and Margaret, 2, and Cave's sister in law, Miss Ida Hogan, 23, of Birmingham. Mrs. Nora Cave, wife of the dead man, was painfully injured, being badly cut and bruised. She said that she staggered up and down the lonely road, crying for help at nearby negro house, but was unable to arouse anyone. The accident occurrred at three o'clock in the morning, and Mrs. Cave said it was seven before anyone came down the road to assist them. She is being treated in a Vicksburg hospital. The party were on their way to Birmingham when the car skidded and overturned on a banked crossroad, striking a pile of concrete before righting itself. Mrs. Cave was thrown clear from the car. The others died in the machine. The family had recently come to Winnfield where Mr. Cave was engaged as a salt mine worker at the Rock Quarry.
