G. Canterbury Dies Following Short Illness James Vail Canterbury, 10 years and 4 days of age, died at the Fittz-Faith Clinic 4 o'clock Thursday morning, August 15, 1935, following an illness since last Saturday. Poison from an infection which started in his knee and proceeded to his blood stream and the development of pneumonia resulted in his death. James was the youngest child of Professor and Mrs. J. G. Canterbury of Dodson. He celebrated his tenth birthday last Sunday and was ready to enter the fifth grade in school this year. Although not a member of the church he was a regular student of the Sunday School. His Christian training was emphasized when death was near by the beautiful prayers he spoke. Funeral services will be conducted in Dodson Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the Baptist Church. The Rev. L. V. Fortenberry of Eunice will be in charge. Interment will follow in the Atlanta Cemetery, Atlanta, La. Surviving James besides his parents are one sister, Leah Mae, and one brother, Gordon, a student at Louisiana State University. From: August 22, 1935 Winn Parish Enterprise James V. Canterbury Last rites for James Vail Canterbury, 10, who died August 15, 1935, were held at the Baptist Church, Dodson, Friday morning with Rev. C. J. Frost and Rev. Frank Stagg officiating. Interment was in the Atlanta, La. Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W. D. Temple, J. G. Smith, A. L. Mixon, J. H. Barr, L. L. Lee, and A. E. Gaar. Honorary pallbearers, playmates of the deceased, were: Harvey Waters, Jr., McArdis Price, Tommie Pyburn, O. H. Robertson, Jr., Billie Hughes, Garville Biggs, Douglas Rau, Paul Peters, Jr., and C. L. Green.
