Article No. 2 Winnfield Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident A 32 year old Winnfield was killed Saturday evening when his motorcycle collided with a car that turned left in front of him at the intersection of U. S. Highway 84 and Louisiana Highway 34, according to Louisiana Trooper Earl Townsend. Jim Bob Chandler was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:40 p.m. by Winn Parish Coroner Dr. Randy Williams. Trooper Townsend reported Chandler was apparently traveling at an excessive rate of speed and heading west on Highway 84 around 6:15 when an eastbound 1979 Pontiac made an improper turn in front of him onto Highway 34. Chandler laid the motorcycle on its side and skidded beneath the car, Townsend said. Chandler's wife was following behind him and witnessed the accident. According to Coroner Williams, Mrs. Chandler was admitted to the Winnfield General Hospital and treated for neurogenic shock. She was released Monday morning. The car was driven by Lucia T. Payne, 62, of West Monroe, who told Trooper Townsend she did not see the motorcycle and did not realize she had hit Chandler until after she had turned. Townsend stated no charges were filed but a blood alcohol test was ordered on the woman driver. The accident is still under investigation, he said. Coroner Williams said the Chandler accident was the second motorcycle fatality this year. Chandler has two brothers in Winnfield; Archie Chandler, principal at Eastside Elementary School, and Arthur Dale Chandler, a Winnfield Fireman and Civil Service Board Secretary.
