All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 5, 1950 Winnfield News-American Tom Chester, Ward Six Citizen, Dies In Alexandria Funeral services for Tom Chester, known as "Uncle Tom" to his many friends in Winn, were held at Mars Hill Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, with the Rev. Miers of Montgomery and the Rev. Mose of Alexandria, officiating. Burial was in Mars Hill Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Chester, who moved to Winn Parish from Alabama at the age of four, had lived almost all of his life in Ward Six. He died in his sleep in Alexandria April 28, where he was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Hattie Duplissy. Surviving are two sons, Johnnie and Howard, and one daughter, Mrs. Hattie Duplissy; one sister, Mrs. L. Dixon; three grandsons, and six great grandchildren. Mr. Chester, a former member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, united with Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church about 10 years ago.
