Cherry, Sr., 74, of Center Street, Winnfield, died at 6:00 a.m. at Rapides General Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Cherry was a native of McGehee, Arkansas and a resident of Winnfield, since 1949. He established Winn Business Service in 1953 and was its president until his retirement in 1983, and continued as a public accountant for a number of businesses and individuals until his death. Cherry served as a Winnfield City alderman from 1954 to 1958, and as Winnfield City Clerk for time before his election. He held the position of Secretary- Treasurer with the Winn Parish Police Jury from 1964 to 1969, and was Chief Deputy Tax Collector in 1969. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Malcolm K. (Mary Margaret) Shuman, Baton Rouge; two sons, Robert M., Jr., of San Rafael, California and John Michael of Savannah, Georgia; six grandchildren, Summer and Karl Shuman, Baton Rouge, Tammy Cherry Burke, Kell and Robert Cherry III, San Rafael, and Katherine Beard Cherry, Savannah, Ga.; and three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Garland (Lucy) Chennault, McGehee, Ark.; brother in law, Mike J. Beard, Garwood, Texas; and two sisters in law, Mrs. Clyde (Bernice) Beard, Jonesville, and Mrs. Carl (Ellen) Beard, Winnfield. Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Katherine Beard Cherry. Burial was Thursday, January 28, in Winnfield, with Dr. Calvin Phelps of First Baptist Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Beville, Herman Boyett, Puckett Willis, D. D. Jacobs, Bluch Haddox, Jesse Anders, and Sye Varnell. Pallbearers were Andre Derr, David Caskey, Archie Chandler, Gregg Davies, Kiah Beville, and Don Kelley.
