Clark Dies Aboard Ship In Navy Word was received here today of the death of Jimmy D. Clark, aboard the USS Tarawa in the Navy. Clark, 19, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Clark, Route 2, Winnfield. The telegram received from Vice Adm. J. L. Motloway, Jr., Chief of Naval Personnel, stated "I deeply regret to inform you on behalf of the United States Navy that your son, Jimmy D. Clark, USN 491 55 10, died, on Sept. 21, aboard the USS Tarawa as a result of a skull fracture. Your son died while in the service of his country... Clark is a 1950 graduate of Winnfield High School and entered the Navy in August, 1956. Funeral arrangements were not known at press time today. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Clark, five brothers, Charles of Rouge 2, Melvin of Thibodaux, Billy Ray and Jerry of Houston, and Robert, of Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Jackie Rooney of Houston, Glenda V. of Route 2, and Louise of Route 2. Details of Clark's death were not known. Article No. 2 Military Funeral Held For Jimmy D. Clark Oct. 15 Military rites for Jimmy D. Clark, AMSAN, U. S. Navy, who died from injuries September 21 he received while serving aboard ship, were held in Winnfield at Southern Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, Oct. 15, with Rev. Kenneth F. Wall of East Winnfield officiating, assisted by Eugene F. Love, Principal of Winnfield High School. Active pallbearers were from England Air Force Base, Alexandria, and honorary pallbearers were members of the 1956 graduating class of Winnfield High. Burial was in the Pinehill Cemetery near Olla. The 19 year old Winnfield seaman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Clark of Rt. 2, Winfield. He died from injuries he sustained when a hatch cover fell on his head as he climbed down the hatch of the USS Tarawa. He was a graduate of Winnfield High School, 1956, and had been in the Navy 13 months. He played first string tackle for Winnfield in 1954 and 1956. Besides his parents he is survived by five brothers, Charles, Jr., and Robert, both of Winnfield, Billy and Jerry, both of Houston, Texas, and Melvin J., of Thibodaux; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Rooney, Houston, Texas; Miss Glenda V. Clark and Miss Irma Louise Clark, both of Winnfield.
