Clifton Is Reported Missing In Action In Sicily Robert J. Clifton of Winnfield was notified by the War Department last week that his son, 1st Sgt. Samuel M. Clifton, 22, with the Field Artillery in Sicily, had been missing in action since February 3rd. Sgt. Clifton has been in service four years and has been overseas two years. He completed his high school education at Goldonna, La., and received his military training at Ft. Benning, Ga., Ft. Knox, Ky., and Salina, Kansas. His father had received a letter from him in January written in December stating he had hopes of returning to the states soon. Besides his father, Sgt. Clifton has a wife who resides in Birmingham, Ala., and three brothers, R. J. Clifton of the South Pacific, Earl Clifton of Alexandria, and Leslie Clifton of Pleasant Hill.
