Colwell Dies Here Suddenly Sunday Morning Funeral Services Held At Residence of R. L. Thomas Monday; Burial Here Funeral services for L. R. Colwell, who dropped dead at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning while returning home from the post office, were held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon at the residence of R. L. Thomas. The Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Colwell, who was a blacksmith in Winnfield, has been here many years, coming to this city in 1904. He was highly respected in this community and has many friends who regret to hear of his death. Mr. Colwell was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1861. He came to Rayville when a small child. On December 22, he married Miss Annie Bradford, who died May 12, 1929. He reared a large family in Winnfield, living here 25 years. Two of his children, Irine and Roy, are dead. Surviving Mr. Colwell are the following children: Mrs. Rush Crain, of Dallas, Mrs. Dick Porter, of Ferriday, Mrs. R. L. Thomas, of Winnfield, Lonnie Colwell, of Shreveport, Miss Olive Colwell, formerly of Winnfield and Ferriday, D. T. Colwell, of Alexandria. There are nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. All the children attended the funeral in Winnfield. Among the out of town persons attending the funeral was Mrs. Charles Nicholson of Choudrant. Miss Olive Colwell returned home with Mrs. Crain and will make her home in Dallas. Death was attributed to heart failure. Mr. Colwell had been in ill health for several months. His death was a shock to many of his friends, who were deeply grieved to hear of it.
