Mrs. Josie Coates Dies in Los Angeles Monday

Mrs. Ethleen Riser of Winnfield was notified Monday of the death of her
sister, Mrs. Josie Magee Coates, which occurred after a lingering illness in
Los Angeles, Calif., Monday.

Mrs. Coates, 59, a native of Winnfield, was the widow of the late D. B.
Coates, editor and publisher of the Southern Sentinel, one of the earlier
newspapers of Winn Parish, and of the Longview Daily Leader, Longview, Texas,
before going to Los Angeles about 20 years ago.

Funeral services for Mrs. Coates were held in Los Angeles Wednesday.

Surviving besides Mrs. Riser, is another sister, Mrs. James Cravens, of San
Dimas, Calif., five daughters, and three sons, all of Los Angeles, California.
