All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 7, 1960 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Allen Cockerham Succumbs; Buried At Old Union Funeral services for Allen Cockerham, 80, who died suddenly at his home in Joyce, April 2, 1960, were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Old Union Baptist Church. Officiating was the pastor, Willie James, assisted by the Rev. Harrison Cockerham. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were Jack Miller, Edward Jordan, Bill Rice, V. J. Jordan, Alfred Cockerham, and Detroy Whisenant, all nephews of the deceased. Born in Winn Parish November 17, 1879, Mr. Cockerham spent his entire life here, and has resided in his last home for the past 59 years. He was a retired farmer and cattleman, and was active in church work at Old Union. He and his wife were the parents of eight children, five of who are still living. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ellen Cockerham of Joyce; three daughters and two sons as follows: Mrs. Mattie Meador, Zimmerman, Henry Cockerham, Mrs. Callie Massey, and Harvey Cockerham, all of Winnfield, and Mrs. V. O. Kennedy, Sharon, Pa. Five grandchildren, Dr. J. D. Meador, Alpharetta, Ga., James Massey, Winnfield, Allen Massey, Shreveport, Walter and Coe Ellen Kennedy of Sharon, Pa. He also leaves six great grandchildren. Mr. Cockerham was the last of his brothers and sisters. He was the son of the late Henry and Kissiah Cockerham. His brother and two sisters preceding him in death were Mrs. Rosa Lee Rice, Mrs. Altha Jordan, and Ibzan Cockerham. Seventeen half brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.
