S. Cockerham Dies Feb. 9; Last Rites At New Hope John S. Cockerham, 90, native of the Calvin community, died at 3:30 p.m February 9 at his home on Route One, Dodson, after a short illness. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Welcome Home Baptist Church, and a lifelong resident of the parish. Last rites were conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at the New Hope Methodist Church with the Rev. E. B. Barton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Survivors include one son, Gilbert Cockerham of Route 1, Dodson; two daughters, Mrs. Pat Garrett of Calvin and Mrs. Ellis Stewart of Route 1, Dodson; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He also leaves three half brothers, Mike, L. C., and R. C. Carpenter, all of Joyce.
