Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern, Winnfield. Mr. Cole, age 79, of Winnfield, died November 22, 1996 in St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, La. Mr. Cole was a member of First Christian Church and a U. S. Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was past president of Retired Teachers Association, past member of the Louisiana Teachers Association, a graduate of Winnfield High School, Northwestern State University, and received a Masters degree from Mississippi State University. Survivors include his wife, Helen D. Cole, of Winnfield; one son, Richard Barton Cole of Zephyr Hills, Florida; two sisters, Mildred Crooks of Jena, Louisiana and Aliene Melancon of Natchitoches, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Aaron Cole, Krista Cole, and Jonathan Cole; one granddaughter-in-law, Kristi Layne Cole; one great grandson, Kaleb John Cole. Pallbearers were Tommy Bankston, Eugene Love, Donald Garrett, Hershel Machen, J. C. Ward, Dennis Shell, Sammy Brian, and Freddie Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were Pat Harrell, Ed Grigg, Russell Terry, Jim Wiley, and Buddy Bates.
