All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 14, 1945 Winn Parish Enterprise Auto Wreck Is Fatal To Son Of Grady Collins Grady Collins, Jr., 18, of McGehee, Ark., was killed and Lloyd Long, 18, of Belzonia, Miss., suffered a bruised arm and slight back injuries in an automobile accident about four miles northeast of Nashville, ark., on the Hot Springs-Nashville highway after midnight June 10. The accident occurred after the car, driven by Collins, rounded a curve at Ozan Cemetery and striking the side of a concrete bridge at the foot of the hill, was hurled about 120 feet from the bridge. Collins was thrown from the car and Long, who was subsequently taken by ambulance to a Nashville hospital, was thrown into the back seat of the car, which was demolished. Collins recently received a medical discharge from the Navy after serving 18 months in the Pacific. He entered service when only 15. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Collins of McGehee; a sister, Mrs. H. A. Smith, Farmerville, La.; two brothers, Jack of McGehee and Chief Machinist's Mate Porter Collins, recently liberated from the Philippines. He is the grandson of Mrs. A. P. Collins of Winnfield, Route Two. Funeral services were held Monday in the Assembly of God Church in McGehee, conducted by the Rev. Tanner of West Monroe, assisted by the pastor of the McGehee Church. Attending from Winnfield were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Collins and son, Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. H. Porter, Harmon Porter, and John Porter.
