Burial will follow at the Old Union Cemetery in rural Winn Parish, with graveside services planned for 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2002, from 6 o 9 p.m. at McGuire Funeral Homes, Vivian, LA. Mr. Collins was born November 11, 1921 in Winn Parish, LA and died on Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Shreveport after a sudden illness. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, enlisting during WWII, and then attended Northwestern College in Natchitoches, LA, for two years after the war, where he met and married Leta Mildred Munnerlyn in 1948. He soon was hired by an advance surveying team for an oil company and worked all over west Texas during the oil boom. He returned to Louisiana in 1952 and worked for 30 years for UOP in Blanchard, retiring as shift supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lanier Patton Collins of Winn Parish; his sister, Katherine Collins Moore of Weston, LA; an infant brother; and his granddaughter, Lillianna Collins. Survivors are his 4 children, Leta and husband John Thomas of Hallsville, TX; Janet and husband Carl Pauley of Houston, TX; Debra and husband Michael Spearman of Vivian, LA; and Ronald and wife JoAnn Collins of Bryan, TX; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; his brother Malcolm and wife Earlena Collins of Winnfield, LA; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
