All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 18, 1954 Winn Parish Enterprise Wife of Former Hotel Operator Dies in Monroe Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Colvin, former resident of Winnfield for many years, were held in Ruston Saturday at 2 p.m. Mrs. Colvin, 81, was the widow of the late Jim Colvin, who was a former Sheriff of Lincoln Parish and later co-owner of the Colvin Hotel, forerunner of the Winnfield Hotel here. She died Friday in a Monroe hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held in a Ruston funeral home conducted by her great nephew, Rev. Patrick, of Baton Rouge. Burial was in Ruston Cemetery. Survivors are two sons, Lamar Colvin, an attorney at Mansfield, and Justin Colvin, co-owner of a grocery firm in Winnsboro; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Farmer of California; one brother, John Henry of Simsboro; one half-sister, Mrs. Blanchard; and a sister, Mrs. Raymond Heard of Ruston; and a host of other relatives and friends in Winn Parish. Attending the funeral from here were Mrs. Colvin's sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annabelle Dickerson and Mrs. A. T. Drewett, Sr., and her brother-in-law, T. H. Colvin and son, David Payne, of Alexandria.
