Last Rites Monday For City Marshal W. C. Colvin, Sr.

Willie Cal Colvin, 69, City Marshal of the Town of Winnfield for the past five
years, died at his home here Saturday night, July 12, after an illness of
several months.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church at 10:00 o'clock Monday
morning, July 14, with the Rev. H. H. McBride officiating, assisted by the
Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. C. M. Robinson.  Interment was in the
Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Mr. Colvin was born in Lincoln Parish.  He was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. John A. Colvin and was a member of a large pioneer Colvin family of
Lincoln and Union Parishes.  His wife, the former Miss Grace Hyde, also
belongs to one of the oldest and largest pioneer families of Central
Louisiana.  Mr. Colvin was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Woodmen
of the World Insurance Society.

Mr. Colvin was elected city marshal here in April, 1942 and was re-elected in
1946 for another four year term.  Little more than a year of his second term
had passed at the time of his death.

For many yers he was in the hotel business.  His father, J. A. Colvin built
the Colvin Hotel, in Winnfield, in 1907, and was assisted in the operation by
his sone until the local hotel was sold and the Colvins acquired the old T. P.
A. Hotel in Alexandria.  Later Mr. Colvin was in the hotel business in
Prescott, Ark.  About 30 years ago Mr. Colvin and his brother, the late J. M.
Colvin, re-purchased the Colvin Hotel here and operated it until 15 years ago. 
Mr. Colvin was employed by the Louisiana State Board of Health for several
years prior to his election as Winnfield City Marshal.

Surviving besides his widow are two sons, W. C., Jr., and Stanley Colvin of
Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Jared Beville, Kilgore, Texas, Mrs. Howard
Finn, Shreveport, and Mrs. Harry Von Einem of Terre Haute, Ind.; one brother,
T. H. Colvin of Pineville; five sisters, Mrs. W. F. Dickerson, Mrs. A. T.
Drewett, Sr., Mrs. Daisy Chelette, of Winnfield; Mrs. Johnnie LaFleur, of
Ville Platte; and Mrs. G. E. Bozeman of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren,
Dickie Finn, Jared Beville, and Diane Colvin.

Pallbearers were Harwell Allen, R. D. Cantwell, E. J. Byrnes, B. L. Anderson,
John Sowers, Lee Grigsby, Lambert Stroud, C. O. Barnes, Paul Jones, L. E.
Boyette, Talton Rowell, W. B. Kemp, Rufus Walsh, Lee Barnett, Gamble Carter,
Douglas Durrett, Bryant Sholars, R. S. Jordan, and Louis Sholars.
