C. Cookston, prominent land and timber owner in Winn Parish, died Sunday, May 9, 1971, in Baton Rouge General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church in Winnfield with the Rev. R. H. Staples officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Skinner and Rev. W. R. Gage. Burial was in the Winnfield city cemetery directed by Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mrs. Cookston was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary, the Orphanage Circle, the First United Methodist Church, and the Women's' Society of Christian Services. Survivors include two sons, Dr. William Cavitt Cookston, Jr., of Monroe and Dr. James Sanders Cookston of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Dr. Helen Marie Cookston of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Ray Jenkins of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Branch and Mrs. Cora Terrill of Shreveport and Mrs. Jimmy Aycock of Ruston; two brothers, Dewey Sanders of Monroe and Arnold Sanders of Shreveport; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers included Harold Branch, Will Edd Sanders, Hoy Anders, John D. Laughter, Bob Sanders, Ray Aycock, Tommy Sanders, Jerry Sanders.
