G. Corbitt, 65, former mayor of Gilbert, La., for 20 years, were conducted in a Winnsboro funeral home Friday, February 1, with burial following at 4 p.m. that day. Mr. Corbitt passed away January 29. The Rev. J. W. Boyd and Rev. Clarence Young officiated. Mr. Corbitt was a native of the Atlanta community, but had resided at Gilbert since 1920, where he was mayor until 1958. He was a member of Dan Gilbert Masonic Lodge No. 405 F. & AM and partner in the Scott-Corbitt Drug Store in Winnsboro. He also had farming and stock raising interests in Franklin Parish. Surviving are his widow, the former Agnes Long, Winnfield native, of gilbert; his mother, Mrs. Virginia Corbitt of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. O. H. Bruhn, Mrs. Tom Brown, Miss Ouida Corbitt and Mrs. Agnes Jenkins, all of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Corbitt is a sister of Mrs. Zelma Frazier and Mrs. G. P. Long of Winnfield. A host of out of town friends and relatives attended the last rites in Winnfield Friday.
