Coyle of Cotton Valley Killed Sunday Was Fatally Injured In Oil Field Accident Near Athens Funeral services for Raymond D. Coyle of Cotton Valley, who was fatally injured in an accident at the Triangle drilling rig in the Sugar Creek field in Claiborne Parish Sunday morning, were held at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Valley Monday afternoon with interment in the Cotton Valley Cemetery. Relatives and friends from Winnfield attended the last rites. The unfortunate man was the husband of the former Miss Angie Pugh, who at one time lived at Atlanta, this parish. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Pugh of Cotton Valley and the sister of Mrs. Shirley Jackson and the niece of Miss Angie Slack of Winnfield. Mr. Coyle was working with a youth, Jack McCallie, who was also injured on a test job. The drill stem in the test had been stuck for about a week and the two men were working to free it. A cable which pulls the tongs broke, swung free and struck Coyle on the right leg. The force of the blow threw him against machinery causing internal injuries. He died enroute to the Minden sanitarium. Mr. Coyle was 32 years of age, born and reared in Cotton Valley, and had spent all his life here with the exception of a few short periods when he was off on oil field jobs. He was a young man held in esteem by all who knew him and has many friends and relatives who will mourn his death. He was married to Miss Angie Pugh on May 30, 1930 and the have one son, Robert Warren, age 4. Mr. Coyle is also survived his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Coyle of Cotton Valley; three sisters, Mrs. Tom Stephenson, Mrs. Howard Broghan, and Miss Roberta Coyle, all of Shreveport. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Cotton Valley.
