J. Creel, 81, Known For Chair Making, Succumbs Funeral services for Thomas J. Creel, 81 years, 2 months, and 14 days of age, who died in a local hospital December 12, 1956, were held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Old Union Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. John Ingouf, Rev. Edward Smith, and Mr. A. Leonard Allen officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Known as "Uncle Tom", Mr. Creel had carried on the trade of chair-making that had been started by his father before him over 100 years ago. This trade is still being carried on by Mr. Creel's sons. A retired farmer, he was a lifetime resident of the Hudson Community and a lifetime member of the Old Union Church. Married to Miss Henrietta Jones in 1893, Mr. Creel and his wife were the parents of 15 children, eight of whom survive. Mrs. Creel passed away in 1942. The surviving children are Mrs. Cecil McCartney and Mrs. Elmo Townsend, Winnfield; Grady Creel, Winnsboro; Mrs. Weaver Thornton, Vidalia; Mrs. Arthur Boles, Shreveport; Mrs. Dewey Evans, Bernice; J. C. Creel, Dodson; Mrs. Charles Barnes, New Orleans. Also surviving are 66 grandchildren, 96 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. With 172 descendants, Mr. Creel is thought to have had the most descendants of any person in the parish. Acting as pallbearers were Aaron F. Creel, Silas Creel, Dewey Creel, Hezzie Creel, Julian Creel, John F. Creel, F. M. Creel, and Riley H. Creel.
