A native of Texas, Mrs. Crippen resided in Winnfield for about 20 years, until four years ago when she returned to Texas to make her home. She was the widow of the late E. C. Crippen, who died in Winnfield in 1939. Funeral services were held at the home of her son, Jim Crippen, Front Street, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb and Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Frank Crippen, Jr., Earl Baggett, Fred Cottonbrooks, J. J. Crippen, Willie Lasyone, and George Crippen. Mrs. Crippen was a member of the Winnfield First Baptist Church and the local Eastern Star Chapter. She is survived by two sons, Frank and Jim, of Winnfield; and one daughter, Mrs. B. F. Goodwin of Fort Worth, Texas; 27 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. From the Winnfield News-American Mother of Two Local Men Dies In Houston, Texas Mrs. Crippen Rites Held In Winnfield Thursday Afternoon Funeral services were held at the J. W. Crippen residence at 3 p.m. Thursday for Mrs. Mattie Martha Crippen, 87, of Houston, Texas, mother of two local men, who died in Houston April 23, after several years illness. Rites were conducted by Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church, and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. A native of Texas, Mrs. Crippen was born March 12, 1865. She is survived by two sons, J. W. Crippen and Frank Crippen of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Willie Goodman of Fort Worth, Texas, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers were J. J. Crippen, Willie Lasyone, Fred Cottonbrooks, George Crippen, Frank Crippen, Jr., and Earl Baggett.
