W. Crippen Leader in Religious, Social Affairs Dies in Alexandria Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. yesterday for Mrs. Jessie B. Crippen, 55, of Winnfield, wife of James William Crippen, who died in an Alexandria hospital at 11 a.m. Wednesday following a serious operation. Rites were conducted by Rev. Moses Mercer of Pollock and Rev. H. H. Stokes of Winnfield, and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Hixon Brothers Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were D. L. Durrett, F. J. McMurry, Clyde Taylor, J. W. Kennedy, Melton Hightower, Ed Gassiott, J. A. Madden, and Eli Harrell. Honorary pallbearers were G. C. Taylor, T. A. Ferrell, A. L. Smith, Ovey Trahan, D. L. Hoffman, Prentice Cole and Bill Kelly. Easter Star services were conducted at the graveside. Mrs. Crippen was an active member of the First Baptist Church and of the Palestine Chapter, O. E. S., of which she had served as worthy matron for several years. she was identified with religious, civic, and social activities for many years. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, J. J. Crippen, and a daughter, Mrs. Willie Lasyone; her mother, Mrs. Rosa B. Douthey of Dayton, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Jewel Fenton of Dayton, Mrs. Mary Fowler and Mrs. Vester Blue of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Laura Kinney of Beaumont, Tex.; four brothers, Roy Nicar of Port Arthur, Tex., Howard Douthey of Devers, Tex., and Bill Douthey of Hobert, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Jimmy and John Crippen and Martha and Ronald Lasyone.
