All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 20, 1946 Winn Parish Enterprise Virgil Crippen Succumbs After Short Illness The death of Virgil Crippen, well known railway employee of Winnfield, occurred at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria Thursday, June 20, at 12:35 a.m. after an illness of only three days. Mr. Crippen was stricken at his home Monday night and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. It was learned that he had suffered a stroke from which his death resulted. His wife, members of his family, with close friends were at the bedside when he passed away. The deceased was born at Roamsboro, Texas, December 15, 1897. The son of Mrs. Mattie Hays Crippen of Jefferson, Texas, and the late D. C. Crippen, the deceased is survived by his wife, the former Hattie Porter whom he married in 1921; his mother, three brothers, Frank and Jim Crippen of Winnfield and Claude Crippen of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Willie Goodwin of Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Crippen came to Winnfield from Texas twenty-eight years ago and has been employed as a brakeman and extra conductor for the Tremont and Gulf Railway here for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the Winnfield Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, and the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, June 21, at the First Baptist Church in Winnfield with Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor officiating. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Southern Funeral Home and the time of the last rites and names of pallbearers had not been arranged in time for this issue of the paper. Besides relatives, Mr. Crippen leaves a host of friends in this vicinity.
