Crain died in a hospital here at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1965, following a hospitalization of about five weeks. Death was attributed to internal hemorrhaging. Successful surgery was performed several weeks ago to repair an artery which was clogged. He was 63 and had served as Registrar since March 14, 1965. Crain was deputy sheriff under the late C. M. Robinson between August 1952 and 1956. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m., Nov. 11 in the Laurel Heights Baptist Church. He was a member of that church and the pastor, Rev. C. C. Martin was in charge of services. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. Crain was born in the Gaars Mill community. He had followed carpentry, construction, and oil field work in his earlier years and once worked at the Rock Quarry here. Surviving are his wife, three sons, George of Pasadena, Tex., Dudley of Arcadia, and Delane of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. Ouida Anderson, Shreveport, Mrs. Gay Nell Collins, Winnfield, Mrs. Wanda Meeks, West Monroe, Mrs. Martha Johnston, Vidalia; three brothers, J. M. and Lamar Crain, Shreveport, and B. M. Crain of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Ingouf and Mrs. Rush Tyler and Mrs. Kara Dark, all of Shreveport. Serving as pallbearers were C. R. Long, Jesse Anders, V. O. Jones, Dalton Martin, Alman Antley, and Robert Cherry.
