Afternoon Mrs. Jessie B. Crippen, 65, wife of J. W. Crippen of Winnfield, died in the Baptist Hospital, Alexandria, May 5, 1948, following an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. H. H. McBride, assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Moses Mercer of Pollock, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. Acting as pallbearers were F. J. McMurry, Clyde Taylor, Eli Harrell, J. W. Kennedy, Melton Hightower, Ed Gassiott, J. A. Madden, and Douglas Durrett. Honorary pallbearers were C. C. Taylor, T. A. Ferrell, Al Smith, Jr., Ovey Trahan, D. Hoffman, and Prentice Cole. Born in Texas, Mrs. Crippen had lived the greater part of her life in Winnfield. She was active in the First Baptist Church of which she was a member and in the local Eastern Star Chapter. Surviving besides her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Willie (Juanita) Lasyone, Winnfield; one son, J. J. Crippen, Winnfield; mother, Mrs. Rosie B. Douthey, Liberty, Texas; four brothers, Roy T. Nicar, Port Arthur, Texas; Arthur Nicar, Liberty, Texas; Howard Douthey, Liberty, Texas; W. P. Douthey, Hopert, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Jewell Fanton, Liberty, Texas; Mrs. Mary Fallor, Mrs. Vester Blue, Houston; and Mrs. Laura Kamney, Beaumont, Texas.
